The layout contains 48 squares arranged in six columns and eight rows. Two contrasting square types form the checkerboard, while cream joins give the eye a consistent grid. Make a small paper layout and label the two square types before beginning the full set.
If you change colors, compare how the center and outer rounds read together. Dark centers and pale outer rounds can create a very different effect from the same colors reversed. Keep a written color sequence for each square type.
Compare a warm square and a cool square after the same finishing treatment. If they differ in size, investigate stitch counts, yarn substitution and tension before making the remaining motifs. Joining tension can affect the final dimensions, so square size alone is not a finished-blanket guarantee.
Lay out and count all six columns and eight rows before joining. A photo and row labels help maintain the checkerboard when the squares are stacked for assembly. Record your actual yarn use from the first samples for planning.
These notes help you evaluate colors, scale and preparation. They do not replace a complete cutting list or row-by-row recipe.
