Plan your version.

Use texture rather than extra trim

This runner is planned as a plain sage rectangle without fringe or a separate border. The interest comes from the moss-stitch surface. Choose a yarn color with enough contrast against your working background to see the chain spaces and edge stitches.

The large-print edition uses short steps and counting checks. Keep its terminology key nearby: a stitch and a chain space are different places to work, and the edge sequence must be followed rather than guessed from the cover.

Check the fabric before planning the table

Make a swatch in the specified stitch and use the same preparation method described in the guide. Record the stitch gauge, row gauge, yarn and hook. A table runner may not need garment fit, but a gauge change still affects its width, length and yarn use.

Mark the first and last working positions if the edges are hard to follow. If the rectangle narrows, compare counts at earlier rows before adding an improvised border. The pattern’s clean edge depends on consistent construction.

These notes help you evaluate colors, scale and preparation. They do not replace a complete cutting list or row-by-row recipe.
