Plan your version.

Let the star read clearly

The large star is the focal point; the nine-patch center adds a second, smaller rhythm. Compare the floral points against the navy background before choosing fabric. A floral with a very dark ground can blend into navy even when its flowers are pink. Lay out a small sample with the intended neighboring fabrics and view it from a few steps away.

Keep the ivory frame visually quieter than the star. Check the scale of the floral print through a paper window representing a finished patch, rather than judging the full fabric length alone.

Separate block checks from quilt size

The nominal finished design is 48 inches square. That does not mean every intermediate unit should measure a finished multiple of the block size: raw outer edges still carry seam allowances. Label each checkpoint as cut, unfinished or finished before comparing measurements.

Make a seam test before assembling the center. If the center and the star units differ, investigate the first incorrect unit instead of stretching the final row to fit.

These notes help you evaluate colors, scale and preparation. They do not replace a complete cutting list or row-by-row recipe.
